THE G (casting a suspicious look towards a pony-tailed car park attendant during a recent museum visit): "Is that a man?"
ME: "Yes, that's a man."
Short pause for thought.
THE G (puzzled): "It's a funny man."
Brief quiet.
THE B (just as confused as The G): "But he's got long hair . . . ."
THE G (in agreement): "He's a bit different."
There followed a short silence.
THE B (quizzical): "Daddy, how can you tell it's a man?"
ME: "I just can."
Further contemplation.
THE G (far from convinced): "Daddy, is that a lady?"
